Chapter 27
Outside the car, Gerry, the driver, took the roadside sobriety test. So far, he’d passed.
Franco lowered the partition, but Loman didn’t turn around. He just sat in the front, hands on the dashboard.
“Cool it, man,” said Loman. “We told him no one was in the back.”
“Who is it?”
“One motorcycle deputy, but he’s already called for backup.”
“This is bullshit.” Franco got out of the car.
“Julian,” said Zilberberg, silent since they’d left the jail, “don’t.”
“What? Just let him arrest us?” Franco slammed the door and as he aimed the gun at the cop.
The officer looked up and mouthed, “Oh, fuck me,” right before Franco shot him in the chest. He then shot the driver and put the pistol in his hand.
